About Avacal Biological

Avacal Biological started in 2010  based on the need for quality, professional algal analysis within the Northeastern United States.  Since that time samples have been analyzed and applied to metrics to determine water quality impacts from bodies of water located in New York, Vermont, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Canada.

At the request of clients, the educational component  was added to assist individuals with understanding the science of water quality impacts and issues related to algae.

What's in a name: Avacal Biological; Avacal was the name given on the earliest map published in 1570, by Abraham Ortelius to the region that is now northern New York, aka the Adirondacks. The name pre-dates others: the 1616 Iroquoisia, the 1621 Hodenosaunee or Konoshion. It was not until 1777 that the name Adirondack was found on any map.
